Institut für Neuroendokrinologie

Medizinische Universität Lübeck

The research in the department is devoted primarily to the consolidation of memory during sleep. Memory formation is considered a basic function of biological systems that adapt to stressors on a long term. Memory formation takes place not only in the neurobehavioral system but also in the immune and the metabolic system. Our research aims to show that sleep supports processes of memory consolidation in all these systems, and to establish the mechanism underlying this memory function of sleep. A second area of research concerns the neuroendocrine mechanisms controlling eating and the regulation of body weight in humans.
